New for 2016
Kia has streamlined the Forte sedan’s packages for the 2016 model year. Keyless entry with remote trunk release is now standard. Navigation with HD radio is now included in the EX Premium Package. A new LX Popular Plus Package includes cruise control, 16-inch alloy wheels, and a rearview camera. A new Premium Plus Package features LED tail lights, 4.2-inch color LCD in the instrument cluster, 10-way power adjustable driver’s seat, heated and vented front seats, heated steering wheel, heated rear seats, and dual-zone automatic temperature control with rear vents. Four new colors have been added to the exterior paint palate including Clear White, Silky Silver, Steel Blue, and Crimson Red.
Vehicle Summary
The compact Kia Forte sedan slots above the subcompact Rio sedan and below the midsize Optima and full-size Cadenza and K900 sedans. Kia also builds a two-door Kia Koup and Forte5 hatchback.
Overview
For 2016, the Kia Forte sedan is offered in LX and EX trims. The Forte LX is powered by a 1.8-liter MPI I-4 making 145 hp at 6,500 rpm and 130 lb-ft of torque at 4,700 rpm. The engine is backed by either a six-speed manual or six-speed automatic. Power for the Forte EX comes from a 2.0-liter GDI I-4 rated 173 hp at 6,500 rpm and 154 lb-ft at 4,700 rpm. The 2.0-liter is backed solely by a six-speed automatic transmission. The 1.8-liter with the manual is EPA-rated 25/36/29 mpg city combined, while the automatic is rated 26/37/30 mpg. The 2.0-liter and auto combo is rated 24/35/28 mpg.
Safety
The Kia Forte sedan has a five-star overall safety rating from the NHTSA (out of a possible five stars). While the 2016 Forte earned a Good rating in the IIHS’ moderate overlap front, side, roof strength, and head restraints & seats tests, a Marginal score in the small overlap front test and lack of front crash prevention prevented it from earning a Top Safety Pick rating.
What We Think
“Most of the mechanical changes impressed me during my three-hour test drive. The chassis feels solid and calm in sweeping fast-paced corners, and its ride stays comfortable on choppy highways or city streets — a testament to the suspension retuning and extended wheelbase,” we said in our 2014 Kia Forte EX First Drive.
“Editors were also big fans of its easy-to-use UVO infotainment/telematics system and roomy rear seats,” we said during our 2014 Motor Trend Car of the Year testing. “They weren’t fans of the steering settings, however, since it was difficult to tell any difference between the three, but its biggest downfall was its safety ratings.”
After our 2014 Kia Forte First Test, we concluded: “Although every single creature comfort was available in our fully loaded EX tester, I wonder if we would get the same kick out of the 2014 Forte sedan in LX trim, with its 1.8-liter I-4. Either way, the improved ride quality is what impressed most… the redesigned Forte is in it to win it with its bag of tricks and treats.”

New for 2015
The 2015 Kia Forte sedan gets a small fuel economy improvement for the LX-grade. Optional wheels on LX and EX sedans have been bundled in a new package with Kia’s UVO system and a rearview camera. Additionally, EX hatchbacks and coupes no longer have UVO as standard equipment and is now part of the EX UVO Package.
Vehicle Summary
Available as a sedan, hatchback, and coupe (Koup in Kia speak), the 2015 Kia Forte is a compact car that slots above the subcompact Rio and below the midsize Optima. Sedans are sold in LX and EX trims while the hatchback and coupe are offered in EX and SX grades.
Overview
All 2015 Kia Fortes are offered with two four-cylinder engines: a 1.8-liter with 145 hp and 130 lb-ft of torque and a 2.0-liter making 173 hp and 154 lb-ft. Hatchbacks and coupes, on the other hand, are available with the same 2.0-liter I-4 and a powerful turbocharged 1.6-liter making 201 hp and 195 lb-ft. All engines are mated to a six-speed manual or automatic transmission with the former only available in the Koup, LX sedan, and SX hatch.
Fuel economy is decent, with the automatic-equipped 1.8-liter sedan being the most frugal at 26/39 mpg city/highway. Opting for the manual drops those figures down to 25/37 mph while the larger 2.0-liter achieves 25/36 mpg. The coupe’s gas mileage varies depending on the engine and transmission combination, with the automatic-equipped EX being the most efficient at 25/34 mpg while the EX manual gets 24/33 mpg. EX-grade hatchbacks offer respectable figures at 25/33 mpg. SX models have some of the lowest fuel economy ratings at 22/29 mpg with the manual coupe, 22/30 mpg with the automatic, and 21/29 mpg for the hatchback.
Driving dynamics have seen a dramatic improvement after the Forte’s 2014 model year redesign, with all models offering excellent handling and acceleration except for the sedan equipped with the 1.8-liter, which is focused on fuel economy. Steering feel, however, could use some improvements since it remains slightly on the numb side even on the sportier SX variants. Ride quality, on the other hand, is “pleasantly firm” and isn’t jarring over rough surfaces. Merging and passing maneuvers are a breeze with the 2.0-liter and turbocharged 1.6-liter, which offer great power and brisk acceleration for the class.
The 2015 Forte offers generous space in all body styles, with seating for four adults, plenty of small storage cubbies, and ample trunk space, particularly in the hatchback with a 56.4 cubic-foot capacity when the rear seats are folded down. Infotainment controls are “as easy to use as they come” with intuitive controls that don’t require owners to look to the manual to operate. Additionally, all 2015 Fortes are available with a long list of tech and convenience features including heated front and rear seats, power folding side mirrors, cooled driver’s seats, and an upgraded audio system. Seats in the car are supportive and comfortable but could use more side bolstering for spirited drives on twisty roads. Build quality in all body styles is good, with high-grade materials; however, the all-black interior makes the cabin feel “cold and dark.”
The NHTSA gave the 2015 Forte sedan a five-star overall rating while the hatchback received four stars (out of a possible five stars; the Forte Koup hasn’t been crash tested yet). In IIHS evaluations, the car received a Good score in four categories and Marginal in the small overlap front crash test (Good is the highest possible score).
What We Think
The Kia Forte’s 2014 model year redesign transformed it into a solid compact car that offers a long list of features, excellent driving dynamics, and a refined, well-built cabin. In a 2014/2015 Hatchback Comparison Test, we said that the Kia Forte provided a great balance of daily drivability, a quiet cabin, and capable handling. However, in a Forte5 hatchback First Test, we observed the steering didn’t provide enough feel.
In a 2014 First Test of the Kia Forte Koup, we noted that the seating position “was too high” and that the front seats’ side bolster didn’t have enough support for enthusiastic driving. As an overall package, the Forte range delivers with a model that appeals to everyone and is available with many creature comforts. While the SX coupe’s performance “isn’t going to make you forget cars like the Volkswagen GTI or Civic Si,” it provides an excellent combination of power, handling, and braking that make it a viable choice for buyers looking for a fun-to-drive daily car.

The Kia Spectra or Kia Cerato is a compact car / small family car produced by the Korean automaker Kia Motors since 2000, originally sold only as a hatchback. When the car was redesigned in 2004-05, it later became Kia's top-selling vehicle in the United States, which it remains. Template:Tocleft
When introduced for the 2000 model year for Korea and the United States, it was a hatchback version of the Kia Sephia and Kia Shuma (pronounced Shü-mä´), and replaced the Sephia. It was developed from Kia's previous hatchback, the Mentor (Sephia Leo). Several years later, Kia reveals the minor redesigned model. Renamed as Spectra Wing / Shuma II. Its successor is also the Kia Cerato as the Spectra / Sephia II models. The Shuma was powered 1.5 L and 1.8 L fuel injected four-cylinder petrol engines and its £8,500 starting price was £3,000 less than the approximately equivalent Ford Focus. In 2002 it replaced the Sephia and Shuma completely, though it was the same vehicle. In Russia production of first-gen Spectra is continued by Izh-Avto.

The Cerato is no longer on sale in the UK as the Cee´d has replaced it. Kia UK website It was famously used on Top Gear's caravan challenge.
In 2007 the U.S Kia Spectra received a mid-generation facelift and GEMA engines. Gone are the two awkward spaces between the grille and left/right headlamp area and in its place is grille and headlamp flushed out. The bumper, as well as the headlamps, has lost their pronounced crease near the grille area. The restyled bumper and headlamp assembly now has a smoothed appearance. The rear of the Spectra also received a cosmetic change. Included in the change is a departure of a crease on the trunk lid, in favor of a rounded lid. The taillamp assembly received a minor change which entails the stop lamps being moved from the bottom half of the assembly to the top part of the assembly with the directional/back-up lamps being relocated vice-versa with the stop lamps. The facelift gives the Kia Spectra a more modern look in keeping up with styling trends of its competitors.
Forte/Cerato (Successor)
The new Kia Cerato marked its debut at the 2009 Chicago Auto Show as Kia Forte. It is similar to the Kia Cee'd but unlike the Cee'd which targeted at the European market, the Forte will be targeted globally. The car is based on the Kia KOUP concept which is a 2-door coupé but the car will be offered a 4-door sedan version and the coupé version will come shortly after.[1]
The new Cerato is released in Singapore on February 2009 as Kia Cerato Forte.[2]
